history.

MORE THAN GREAT BONES;

a historical landmark with a legacy of innovation and success. We’re doing more than blowing the dust off these famed walls and storied offices. PACMUTUAL’s neoclassical, handsome presence has been a hallmark of downtown Los Angeles since it was built in 1908. We’ve taken on the job of resurrecting a legend.

THE RESTORATION

Keeping the best, adding the rest. The reinterpretation of a building of this size, unique history and architectural significance must be done exactly right. Our approach to PACMUTUAL peels away layers of paint added over a century, reveals Italian Tavernelle marble, granite and terra cotta and discovers rooms and blacked out windows that were previously sealed off. We don’t want to change anything original that doesn’t translate into something beautiful today. Our goal is to re-imagine the space so it reflects a creative, modern sensibility; a complement to the perfectly aged character around it.

the neighborhood.

Not too many tourists here…those attractions are further west. PACMUTUAL is at the center of what matters to LA locals. Besides, if you’re looking for the buzz of LA Live, you can get there on foot in 15 minutes flat.

Walk out the door and catch a concert in Pershing Square or a performance at the nearby Disney Concert Hall. Art Walk is easily accessible. Grab dinner at Bottega Louie or drinks with colleagues at Drago or The Standard Hotel. Take advantage of multiple farmers markets, the Central Library, the Flower District or Grand Central Market for something truly authentic to Los Angeles. And don’t forget The Last Bookstore – one of the only independent booksellers in the country to be expanding rather than shrinking.

Living in a big city means getting most of your needs met on one city block; from dry cleaning to grocery shopping, bespoke denim to great coffee at stylish cafés. PACMUTUAL resides in such a colorful neighborhood.
